    Auckland City Delegation

A delegation from the Auckland lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities addressed the Auckland City Council last week. The delegation was seeking the establishment of a liaison committee between the communities and the city council. The delegation was listened to by the city councillors with the Mayor moving an extension of speaking time.

The Mayor at the end of the two speeches thanked the delegation and moved that the submission be reviewed by the Recreation committee for reporting back to council.

This outcome was as expected and now it is a matter of seeing what the Recreation Committee decides. The actual outcome could take three months.

    Male Call reaches 1000 callers

Within the first two weeks Male Call, the NZAF Men Who have Sex with Men survey, has received over 1,000 calls. NZAF are pleased with the response to date but would remind people to make sure that all Men Who have sex with Men should call so as to get a comprehensive result. The phone number within New Zealand is 0800-996969 and more information on the survey can be found on the web at http://nz.com/NZ/Queer/NZAF/MaleCall/

    FOGG (NZ) created

FOGG(NZ) = Federation Of Gay Games (New Zealand) was established last week. It serves as a liason committee to the (International) Federation Of Gay Games committee and a national umbrella organization for events in NZ. Its mission encourages the development and the promotion of "all" gay/lesbian/bisexual related sport/fitness/leisure activities in New Zealand. FOGG(NZ)'s main objective is to field a full contingency of participants to the 1-8 August 1998 Gay Games in Amsterdam. More information on FOGG(NZ) can be found on the web at http://nz.com/NZ/Queer/FOGG/.

    Reviews

The 13th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Service at St Matthews in the City, Auckland, was attended by over 400 people. David Curry, spokesperson for the National Union of People living with AIDS, spoke of the need for people to be aware of how they can easily discriminate against people who are HIV. The Gay and Lesbian Singers (GALS) sang three very appropriate songs, along with the calling of names of the 34 people who have died in Auckland in the past year from AIDS related conditions.

And for something completely different you might want to look at these pages: Gyrating, Vibrating & Rocking all Night Long!: Women's Voices in Music. http://www.bgsu.edu/~asavage/music.htm A resource page for academics, practitioners and enthusiasts who feel an investment in women's music.

And The Adventures of Cyborg Krys http://ernie.bgsu.edu/~alan/SF/fem/intro.html A page that creatively combines science fiction with feminist theory.
