The three lesbian couples involved in the High Court bid to allow same-sex marriage have been overwhelmed by the support they have received.
A few letters opposing same-sex marriage however have begun to appear in newspapers around the country. It is anticipated that those opposed to same-sex marriages will increase their opposition as the case begins in the High Court.
Meanwhile Justice Minister, Doug Graham, has indicated that he is opposed to same-sex marriages and may change the legislation if the High Court decision permits them.
Pharmac, the Government drug purchasing agency, stated that combo drug therapy to combat HIV would now be publicly available.
This decision took almost a year after the Ministry of Health's AIDS Medical and Technical Advisory Committee advised the Ministry and Pharmac that combination therapy was emerging as the most effective treatment for people with HIV.
