About Solo . . .

SOLO is a purely social organization open to unattached lesbians who are comfortable hanging around with other women in the 40+ age bracket. This does not mean you must be over forty. Dues are $12 per year and $2 per meeting. We are trying to keep our structure pretty open and loose. For more information, contact Janet at footloos@gwi.net or at our PO Box above.

"Single" Defined . . .

You are single if you say you are. Women are still welcome if they are dating someone as long as they have not made a commitment, and do not consider themselves partnered. In the straight world you are single until you are married, even if you only see one person at a time, and we feel we should have the same consideration.
Our Meetings . . .

Monthly meetings are generally held the first Saturday of the month starting around 5:00. Everyone is encouraged to bring something for a pot luck dinner. On average there have been 30 to 40 women present -- many attending for the first time. We eat around 6:00 and somewhere between then and 9:00 we stop socializing long enough to squeeze in a brief business meeting.

Children At Meetings . . .

A lot of discussion went into the issue of children attending the SOLO gatherings. It was decided that children would not be invited to attend the gatherings. We are a group of older women coming together for the purpose of socializing, and it changes the atmosphere to have children at the gatherings. It was suggested that maybe the mothers of young children could get together and share a baby-sitter, as we certainly would love them to continue to attend. This decision was not easy to arrive at, as everyone wanted to be as considerate as possible.
Stuff We Do Together . . .

Lots of things. One of the nicest things about SOLO is that we can invite one another to do something without it being a "date". We attend community events in impromptu groups; finding the company of other single lesbians preferable to going solo.
