VERMONT’S HIGHEST COURT RULES FOR PLAINTIFFS AGAINST THE STATE

On December 22, the Vermont Supreme Court ruled that the State could not continue to discriminate against same-sex couples in the provision of benefits which married couples are eligible for. It mandated that the state legislature remedy the situation and maintained jurisdiction of the case with an implied warning that it would act more forecfully if the discrimination against same-sex couples did not end. This was opposite from a decision issued a week earlier from the Hawaii Supreme Court which ruled that its same-sex marriage case was moot now that the voters had amended their constitution in the November 1998 election.

JOIN THE BATTLE AGAINST CALIFORNIA'S PROPOSITION 22: NO ON KNIGHT

On the March 7 primary ballot is the "Limit on Marriages" initiative which is officially called Proposition 22 and was sponsored by anti-gay, anti-immigrant Republican State Senator Pete Knight. It is divisive, unfair and intrusive. It states that "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." To help defear this anti-gay initiative call 323.964.0076 or visit www.NoOnKnight.org
