Information About/Guidelines for Use
of the DQ-LA Mailing List:

Digital Queers is a national non-profit organization comprised of individuals who promote equal rights for queer people and the queer community through the effective and strategic use of digital technology and communications.

You have joined the mailing list for the Los Angeles Chapter. Our mailing list is intended as a communication tool for members of Digital Queers and others who are interested in what we do.

We ask that you keep your posts to this list related to the mission and activities of Digital Queers, and to technology in general. Types of posts that are not directly related to the general activities in DQ but would still be appropriate for the DQ list would include technological questions, professional connections, postings about industry events, etc.

Organizational promotion is discouraged, regardless of whether the organization is non-profit or commercial. We do appreciate having members of other queer and queer supportive non-profit organizations on our list. Any attempt to plug a commercial product or service will elicit a negative response.

Since our members are diverse, we may hold various political viewpoints. It is Digital Queers' intention as an organization to remain politically neutral despite the political environment that we often operate in, and to focus primarily on our goal of empowering our community with technology. Therefore, posts of a political nature are not suitable for this list and any posts which happen to be made to it that are of a political nature are not endorsed by DQ.

However, there is one issue that is political in nature that DQ must take a stand on and that is the threat of our queer voices on the Internet being silenced by governmental regulations and/or the policies and programs of commercial providers. We will monitor developments and encourage discussion in this area and would hope that many of our members will take an active role in helping us to combat this *indecency*.

The goal for our list is to focus on DQ activities, but we want it to be fun too! We hope the people on our mailing list and our members in general will be of various skill levels.

As we all link modems and surf into the future together, it is our vision to arrive at a time and place more civil for us all.

If you are looking for a general queer mailing list, we suggest you try the LA-MOTSS (Los Angeles Members of the Same Sex) list. To subscribe to LA-MOTSS send a message to Majordomo@langevin.usc.edu with the text: SUBSCRIBE LA-MOTSS
