LAMBDA does not collect
non-public personal information about individual users, except when such
individuals specifically provide such information on a voluntary basis.
Such personally identifiable information may be gathered from email list
subscription forms, surveys, community postings (e.g., email lists), feedback,
and direct email, among other sources. Personally identifiable information
on individual users will not be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated
third parties except when such disclosure is court ordered, to comply with a
government agency, or in cases of abuse or neglect of a child, or where a danger
to life or property mandates such disclosure.
Information collected by special HATE-CRIME NETWORK forms is used to gather statistical data about hate violence; to publicize, prevent and respond to such incidents; to assist victims whenever possible; and for no other purpose. Online hate crime incident report data may be used for publicly disseminated alerts but will not contain personally identifiable information. To have such alerts generated, users must give permission when completing the online form or subsequently through written consent. Third parties may be permitted to contact the user by having messages relayed to the user by way of LAMBDA (see below). LAMBDA is in no way responsible for the actions of such third parties.
Non personally identifiable
details about reported incidents will be used for advocacy, support, and public
awareness purposes. Victim support email messages and victim
feedback messages will be pre-screened by LAMBDA representatives prior to being
forwarded. Such messages will be tracked/delivered through the use of
generic tracking numbers and will not reveal any personal contact
information. Messages which contain text that are believed not conform to
this principle of relative anonymity will be not be forwarded and will be
deleted. Any subsequent contact between the user and any outside entity is
entirely at the users own risk and LAMBDA recommends that the user not reveal
any personally identifiable information. All of the personal information
collected on these sites will remain strictly confidential and will not be
shared with any other organization under any circumstances.
Our sites' mailing list and volunteer registration forms require users to give us contact information (such as their name and email address) and demographic information (like their ZIP Code and age). The contact information is used to contact the visitor when necessary. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
LAMBDA websites contain links to other sites and, in some cases, LAMBDA provides links to electronic merchant partners to provide our visitors with access to useful merchandise and services. LAMBDA is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites. Information you provide directly to LAMBDA elsewhere on our sites is not shared with anyone without your permission.
Our online surveys ask visitors for contact information (like their email address) and demographic information (like their ZIP Code and age). The contact information is used to contact the visitor when necessary. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
Users should be aware that when
they voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information publicly (e.g.,
name, e-mail address) on the LAMBDA email lists or in the chat areas of the
various LAMBDA sites, such information, along with any substantive information
disclosed in the user's communication, can be collected, correlated and used by
third parties. This may result in unsolicited messages from other posters
or third parties, among other consequences. Such activities are strongly
discouraged, but ultimately, are beyond the control of LAMBDA. If you
communicate with us by e-mail, please remember that Internet e-mail is not
secure and you should avoid sending sensitive or confidential e-mail messages
unless they are adequately encrypted.
Upon request, LAMBDA will allow any user to "opt out" of further informational or promotional contacts at any time. Additionally upon request, LAMBDA will use reasonable efforts to allow users to update/correct personal information previously submitted which the user states is erroneous to the extent such activities will not compromise privacy or security interests. Also, upon a user's request, LAMBDA will use reasonable efforts to functionally delete the user and their personal information from its databases. It may be impossible, however, to delete a user's entry without some residual information remaining because of backups, records of deletions, and the requests for deletions themselves.
These sites gives users the following options for removing their information from our databases to not receive future communications or to no longer receive our services.
