It is supported by the NSW Health Department. Behind the glitter lies a serious purpose: the need for safe spaces in which issues are addressed that our community needs to explore. Our objectives are to present a wide range of issues relating to the impact of the virus on our communities. Through performance we can express feelings and collectively explore different issues in a relaxed atmosphere. This use of performance as a educative tool isn't new. Africa, Asia, Latin and Central America, the United States, aboriginal people in Canada, positive and negative alike; it's already been done. Yet `the message' is often translated to `First World' audiences through performance either through, for example, a play written by Larry Kramer or a film by Derek Jarman. As a method of communicating ideas, experiences, stories and education, performance has a long and estimable history (and has been the subject of numerous studies showing exactly how it does indeed work) Here you'll find all the Performance Positive programs, media releases and posters plus some press coverage and relevant articles. These pages will develop to include more artist's work.
