Press Release From: OW-David TATCHELL'S NEW TRIAL DATE The trial of gay rights campaigner, Peter Tatchell of OutRage!, has been adjourned until 10am on 30 November 1998 at Canterbury Magistrates Court. Tatchell will be tried under the Ecclesiastical Courts Jurisdiction Act, 1860 in consequence of his protest in support of lesbian and gay human rights, in Canterbury Cathedral during the Archbishop of Canterbury's Easter sermon. Mike Mansfield QC, Britain's top civil liberties lawyer, has agreed to represent Tatchell. Amnesty International is monitoring the case, following calls for Tatchell to be adopted as a "Prisoner of Conscience" should he be jailed. The National Secular Society is co-ordinating the PETER TATCHELL DEFENCE CAMPAIGN and circulating an Appeal for members of the public to sign.
