Date: Wed, 22 Sep 1999 07:54:35 +0100 Subject: BID TO SECURE DONNA SUMMER'S SUPPORT FOR GAY RIGHTS From: OW-jgh London gay club promoter Jeremy Joseph has offered to approach the management of pop star Donna Summer to seek her public support for lesbian and gay human rights. His offer follows a call by the gay rights group OutRage! for Summer to remove any doubts about her attitude towards the gay community. Donna Summer is scheduled to perform at Joseph's London club, G.A.Y., on Saturday, 9th October. "We appreciate Jeremy's willingness to express our concerns to Donna's management", said Peter Tatchell of OutRage!. "A public statement opposing homophobic discrimination and supporting gay equality would refute the allegations and accusations against her". "If she expresses her commitment to homosexual human rights, it will remove any doubt and end this controversy once and for all. We can then put this whole, sorry saga behind us and get on with the business of enjoying her wonderful music". "Donna Summer is a great disco icon. Many of us are big fans of her hit songs. We want to end the confusion and animosity that has persisted since the mid-1980s. It is our wish to work with Donna for the benefit of the gay community and people with HIV", said Peter Tatchell.
