On Sunday the 18th Sweden will be voting a new prime minister and a new government in to office. The polls made every day are predicting the return of the social democrats back to power. But apparently, they will not be having their own majority. After receiving good numbers on each poll, they have lost severl percent units from a 52 % which means means having their own majority to 43 % meaning having to make a coalition government with another party. The liberal party has been tipped to be the one who helps them out form the new administration. The liberal party seats right now in coalition with the moderates , the center party, and the christian democrats . The present administration has not a very good gay record except that it was during this administration that the gay marriage law was passed, and only because the liberals the social democrats and the left party had majority on the parliament. The liberal party is by far the most gay friendly political party there is but they have to work a little more after this comming elections. Even when they helped to pass the new law, this did not include adoption and artificial insemination for lesbians. The liberal party has one of the only open gay candidates with a big chance to have a place in the parliament. It is a very young and beautiful man named Mats Sahlin, 24, which will be the next open gay memeber of parliament whom will be the future defender of gay rights in Sweden. This year it seems to have more open gay candidates than ever. The first one ever to hold that position was the late Kent Karlsson, who past away from undisclosed causes, as reported by the morning daily DAGENS NYHETER. As soon as the election results are clear I will posting them in the net along with the name of the future prime minister and his e-mail address so everybody who wishes to write does so. I would like to recommed you all, that this is a great opportunity to put pressure on the new administration and create a worldwide opinion about the situation of gays around the world. Sweden has among several other coutries a very good gay record and this can help to improve it, and in turn this can put pressure on governments around the world in reguards to gay rights, having Sweden as an example.
