TEXT OF THE MOTION FOR THE INSTITUTION OF A CIVIL UNIONS REGISTER APPROVED FROM THE COMMUNAL COUNCIL OF PISA June the 7th 1996: Article 1 (Duties of the city hall) The city hall protects the full dignity and the character of free choice of the civil union and promotes its public respect. Article 2 (Institution of the register) The civil unions register is instituted in the city hall of Pisa. The register is kept in the general register office of the population. It will be provided to the organisation and to the relative proceedings discipline of the register with a following measure of the executive of the city hall, to be assumed within thirty days from the executivity of the present motion. Article 3 (Access to the civil union) Two same-sex or different-sex major persons, one of who at least resident in the city hall of Pisa, can require that their relationship of civil union will be subscribed in the register, as in the first article below. Article 4 (Registration request) Registration request has to be advanced to the general register office, which accepts it only if both applicants are state free (that is unmarried or widower or widow or divorced) and are free from civil union bonds, from one year at least. The office requires to the applicants the documentation which proves the existence of the prescribed requirements. Article 5 (End of the civil union) Both applicants can declare the end of the civil union by raising joined declaration in front of the general register official, who takes note of it in the civil unions register. If the request is advanced from only one of the applicants, the general register official will take note of it in the civil unions register and will timely inform the other applicant through a communication, to be fulfilled by registered letter. The request of end of the civil union presented only by one of the applicants won't take effect if the two applicants raise relative joined declaration in such sense in front of the general register official. Article 6 (Annotations and certifications) The general register official takes note of the annotations or of the variations, followed from the received declarations, in the civil unions register within ten days from their reception. At request of the applicants, the general register official gives act of the subscriptions and of the annotations in the register, as in the first article below.
