Date: Fri, 11 Mar 94 17:26:52 GMT (revised 13 May 94 10:54:39 +0100) From: pdowling@lib1.tcd.ie (patricia cathe dowling) Subject: Lesbian resources/mailing addresses in Ireland I have been tapping into the QRD in recent days and was mightily impressed by the range of information, the ease of use and the fact that there is a refreshing lack of emphasis on being politically-correct!! Anyway, here's some information on lgb activities in Ireland: There is a national organisation based in Dublin, which coordinates national events, lesbian & gay social events, support networks(including phone-lines): National Lesbian & Gay Federation c/o Hirschfeld Centre, Fownes St., Dublin 2. Tel.: (01)6710939{International dialling code also necessary} There is also a lesbian organisation, based in Dublin(with regional links) which acts as a central coordinating body for publishing activities, political activism, social events(discos, film clubs, talks, etc),conferences, funding, etc. Lesbians Organising Together(LOT) c/o 4-5 Capel Street, Dublin 1, Republic of Ireland. Tel: (01)8727770[Mon.-Fri. 10am-5pm] Both of these organisations also hold archives of lesbian, bisexual and gay materials of Irish & international interest. A monthly newspaper is published by the NLGF[see above]: Gay Community News[not the most original of titles,we'll admit!] Copies can be obtained by contacting : The editor, Gay Community News, Hirschfeld Centre, Dublin 2, Tel: (01) 6710939 At the moment,Irish gays & lesbians are leading hectic lives, organising floats for the upcoming St.Patrick's Day Parade(March 17th),Lesbian & Gay Pride(June 25th) and lobbying the government on the proposed Equal Status legislation which would outlaw discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation,in the areas of housing, rental of spaces for social events, education etc and would establish a Human Rights Commission to monitor abuses under the legislation. Somewhere amongst all of this work,we find time to party, love, laugh, come out, and show that Irish gays & lesbians are here, queer & we're not going shopping!! An organising committee for Dublin Lesbian & Gay Pride has been set up. Its address is as follows: Dublin Lesbian & Gay Pride Committee, c/o Connolly Hall, East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. [Note: the offices are open from 2-5 p.m. Monday to Friday] Dublin Lesbian & Gay Pride will run over a week from June 20th until June 26th with safe sex workshops, discos(both mixed and women-only),discussions,film screenings, breakfasts, karaoke and of course the Pride Parade on June 25th. I will send additional information on a new lesbian & gay radio programme which will be broadcasting from Dublin in the coming weeks,as soon as I can get my hands o hands on it,plus other items of interest.
