27-JAN-1994 10:01 JAPAN SAYS IT FOUND 364 NEW AIDS VICTIMS, CARRIERS TOKYO, Jan 27 (Reuter) - Some 364 new victims of AIDS or of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that can cause the disease were reported in Japan last year, the Health Ministry said Thursday. It gave no breakdown of the figure but said it was 129 fewer than the total of new cases reported in 1992. The figure excludes people who acquired the virus through blood transfusions. The ministry said Japan had a total of 2,914 HIV-infected people at the end of November and 685 acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) victims. By the end of last year, 374 people had died of AIDS. The ministry said a significant number of potential victims may have failed to take an AIDS test last year. It said the number of foreign women found to be HIV-infected decreased last year while the number of infected Japanese men increased. REUTER
