The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted the survey on 2,000 member companies and received replies from 14% of them. The survey found that 26% of companies responding intend to treat acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) the same as other diseases and would not take any action with affected employees, while 21% do not know how they would cope with such employees, the chamber said. The chamber said only 3% of the respondents have adopted measures to deal with AIDS, such as the provision of education on the fatal disease for employees and the appointment of officials in charge of such matters. The survey found that 9% of the respondents plan to carry out AIDS tests on all employees in the future, while 2% intend to do so with new recruits, the chamber said.
