Several activists who were nominated to become members of the Steering Committee of KLGI (the Indonesian Lesbian and Gay Congress) III 1997 have confirmed their readiness. These are Dede Oetomo & Didi Soedjono (GN), Budi (GB), Franklyn Leyder (GP), Savio (IGS), and a representative from GC. In the meantime Marcel Latuihamallo, Danny Yatim (IPOOS), Ketut Yasa (GD) and Ellen (a lesbian activist) have not yet confirmed their readiness. 2. The Surabayan Christian group Persekutuan Hidup Damai & Kudus [League for Peaceful and Holy Life] held a religious service on 10 May 1996 at 19.00 WITS (West Indonesian standard time). 3. The group GUCHI (Gabungan Cowok Homo Indonesia - Society of Gay Men of Indonesia) from Semarang agreed to join the Indonesian Lesbian & Gay Network. The group's address is P.O. Information about meeting places: PANDAAN: - In front of the Mojopahit restaurant, at night, transgender and hetero. - The Gunung Sari grave, every Thursday night leading into Jum'at legi [a particular Thursday night in the 35 day Javanese calendar], transgender and hetero. SURABAYA: - The swimming pool Water Park Pantai Ria Kenjeran, on Sundays at 4 pm, gay and hetero. HEALTH 1. GN has received donations of condoms from PCI (Project Concern International) as part of their programme to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS. Edition 2 (1996) of "Profil Lembaga Peduli AIDS" ["Profile of the Institution which cares about AIDS"] has been published. Dede Oetomo (GN) has received a full scholarship to take part in the 11th International AIDS Conference in Vancouver, Canada. A number of NGO friends overseas have offered to share exhibit space with delegates from Indonesia, because of that all members of the network who are sending me mbers to the conference, are invited to contact GN. 4. Khartini Slamah, transgender member of IKHLAS, Malaysia, visited Surabaya (GN) from 22-25 April 1996 as part of a social and study tour, in particular visiting Perwakos [the Surabaya Association of Transgendered People] and Yayasan Abdi Asih. 5. Yayasan AIDS Indonesia, working together with [the phone company] Telkom West Jakarta has opened a hotline, phone number (021) 530-3000, between the hours of 10 am-3 pm (West Indonesian time). PUBLICATION GN 45 has been published and distributed. PUBLIC RELATIONS 1. The daily newspaper 'Surya' in Surabaya published a article on gay life in the town Malang in a three-part serial, on the dates 25-27 April 1996. 2. An advertisment about the 'Hotline GN' was written by a member of GN, Budi. This was published in the tabloid 'Nyata' issue 1297/1st May 1996 in the "Bursa" ['Exchange'] column. 3. A letter by a GN member, Didi Soedjono, which refuted the idea that being gay resulted in heart disease, was published in the May 1996 issue "Matra". 4. It is hoped that members of the Gay National Network will make comment every time that there is news about the gay world, whether in the form of praise or as letters of protest.
