Date: Mon, 19 Feb 1996 15:37:44 +0700 From: Dede Oetomo Subject: News from Indonesia - #1/1996 Internal Bulletin Issue #1- 1996 Indonesian Lesbian and Gay Network Published by: GAYa Nusantara INTRODUCTION In keeping with the decision made at the Indonesian Lesbian and Gay Congress II, held December 29-31 1995 in Lembang, Bandung, West Java, we introduce this first issue of the Internal Bulletin, which we have agreed will act as a means of communication between the active organizations as well as individual correspondents of the Indonesian Lesbian and Gay Network. This bulletin will be published once every two weeks. We hope that this medium will build cohesiveness and strength within our network. NETWORK-RELATED NEWS 1. A lesbian activist in Yogyakarta, Betsy, has declared that she will remain in the network. Her address, however, has changed, and is now: c/o Lentera PKBI-DIY, Jln. Tentara Rakyat Mataram Gg. Kapas JT I/705, Yogyakarta 55231 2. The Christian group League for Peaceful Life of Surabaya has planned a prayer meeting on the 26th of January 1996, to take place at Henny's Beauty Salon on Jl. Makam Peneleh 82, at 7:00 p.m.. 3. Kimeta Society of Toronto, Canada, is offering small grants for lesbian and gay groups in developing countries. The Second Congress at Lembang, Bandung, West Java, from December 29-31 1995 was a resounding success. Proceedings and resolutions of the Congress can be read in GAYa Nusantara #43 and #44. 5. Based upon the decision made at the Second Congress, it has been determined that the Lesbian and Gay Network will be coordinated at the national level by the National Coordinating Body, namely GAYa Nusantara, and at the regional level by Regional Coordinating Bodies, which include: Sumatra and the Jakarta region (coordinated by IPOOS); West Java (coordinated by GAYa PRIAngan); Central Java and the Yogyakarta region (coordinated by IGS); East Java and Kalimantan (coordinated by GAYa Nusantara); Bali, NTB, NTT, and East Timor (coordinated by Gaya Dewata); Sulawesi, Maluku, and Irian Jaya (coordinated by Gaya Celebes). GAYa Nusantara, in the capacity of National Coordinating Body, will select several of its activists as liasions in the aforementioned regions, as follows: Sumatra and the Jakarta region (Adi Wahono); West Java (Agus Ramli); Central Java and the Yogyakarta region (Iyan); East Java and Kalimantan (Vero dan Febby); Bali, NTB, NTT, and East Timor (Aditya dan Charles); Sulawesi, Maluku, and Irian Jaya (Budi). For the near future each of these representatives will begin networking with organizations and individual activists which already exist. The existence of these liasions is for the needs of GAYa Nusantara itselfJand is not meant to replace the function of the Regional Coordinating Bodies. PUBLISHING It is estimated that GN #43 will be published in the middle of February 1996. PUBLIC RELATIONS GAYa Nusantara (in this case Dede Oetomo) has been invited for a discussion of homosexuality in society and law at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University, on January 6, 1996.
