The following advertisement appeared in the state-controlled Zimbabwean
national newspaper today, 3rd March 1997.

CRUSADE AGAINST RAPISTS AND HOMOSEXUALS

God commands the death of sexual perverts.

Our culture and traditional justice system condemns them to death.

Our religion condemns them to death.

Rape, incest, homosexual victims want the sexual molesters to die.

Why does the law condone these evils and save sexual perverts from death?

All those concerned about the lack of justice for the sexually molested are
nvited to the meeting.
Agenda:
1) To debate proposals required for the enactment of laws that will protect
the sexual victims and prescribe effective punishment for the culprits.
2) Set up committees to mobilise Zimbabweans against sexual perverts.

GALZ has stated:

Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) is appalled at the hate propaganda
targetting homosexuals published by Michael Mawema in The Herald, 3rd March
1997.  The national gay and lesbian organisation reiterates that it deplores
rape of any sort.  The majority of homosexuals engage in consenting
relationships.  For Mr Mawema to include homosexuality in activities that do
not respect consent is both destructive and ill-informed.

1) It is inappropriate to include homosexuals with rapists, child abusers etc.

2) It is inappropriate for the state-controlled media to disallow access of
GALZ to the media to refute or balance the arguments put forward
