Subject: Zimbabwe:  urgent appeal for funds

Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) is facing a serious cash-flow
crisis, as you can see from their attached message.

Dear Friends,

If it is possible at all can you put us in touch with potential funding
Foundations who can help us with some funding to run our offices.

If it is not possible please forward this request for us to as many
organisations as possible because our crisis is serious and we may be
forced to shut down offices.

        GALZ Bankrupt

The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) is facing a serious cash-flow
crisis. Although HIVOS has pledged three-year insitutional support, the
proposal is taking longer to process than at first expected. Submission of
the proposal was also slightly late on account that the Programmes Manager
was sitting in law courts daily waiting to act as witness against a man who
attempted to extort US$2,000 in money and goods from him.

Funding from HIVOS is expected to come through towards the end of September
but this is too late; GALZ funds have run dry and there are no
possiblities of an overdraft on our current account with Standard Chartered
Bank -Harare- Zimbabwe.

For GALZ to have run out of money at this stage has become disastrous and
will seriously disrupting GALZ's political lobbying programme, its
preparations for participation at the World Council of Churches and its
potential to defend lesbians and gay men from the dangerous consequences
of state-led homophobia and the witch-hunt of homosexuals which has
intensified in the last three months.

GALZ is appealing for bridge funding of US$5,000 which will ensure the
running of the basic services of the organisation until the first
installment of the new three-year-funding proposal comes through.
