Last week I posted a list of the legal age of consent for homosexuals in the countries of Europe. Since then, I have received e-mail from several people who asked me to post similar information for other parts of the world. So I am posting the information I have about countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas. I got this information from a danish gay magazine. They usually publish accurate information, but I have no way of confirming their information. According to the article, the information was compiled in cooperation with ILGA, the International Lesbian & Gay Association. Along with the information for the various countries, I am posting some additional info that was published along with the lists. Any errors in translation from danish are entirely my fault. Below is the information for Africa. Africa ------ General info: Looking at the list below, it may seem hopeless. However, the reality is a lot more encouraging, as it is very easy to get in contact with local people in coutnries such as Morocco, Tunesia, Egypt and South Africa. Some countries in western Africa - e.g. Ghana and the Ivory Coast - are well known for their very forthcoming young men. There is however a general unwillingness to let a foreigner be the active part in a relationship in Tunesia, Morocco and Egypt. This is not so pre- valent in countries south of Sahara. The biggest problem in e.g. Tunesia and Morocco is the possibility of bringing guests into a hotel. If the hotel is not cooperative, then ask the local guys - they know the places and the possibilities. Do bring your own condoms, South Africa seems at present to be among the most interesting coun- tries in the continent - there is large and enthusiastic selection of blacks, asiatics and whites. Apart from that, South Africa is a fairly cheap and well-functioning country in which to travel. [Note: This comparison was made to danish costs of travelling - it may seem different to Americans]. In eastern Africa, especially the islands of Zanzibar (Tanzania), Lamu (Kenya) and the Comoros Isles with the capital of Moroni are worthy of attention.
