Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 17:13:40 -0700 From: Eros Publishing Subject: Press Release The City of Seattle Special Events Committee today voted to grant the permits for Pride98 March and Rally for Sunday, June 28, to the Freedom Day Committee. Both FDC and PNWP got a fair and open hearing. While I spoke in favor of PNWP if they would honor their offer to subcontract the rally to FDC, the decision was ultimately based on historical precident and I support it. Virginia Swanson, chair of the Special Events Committee, and the committee itself faced a difficult decision and now the issue is resolved. I want to thank the community leaders who gave so much of their time and energy in the effort to mediate between these two groups. Special thanks to Aubrey Sparks, who with me tried to host a BBQ for the leaders of FDC and PNWP in an effort to bridge the personality gaps. A great big "Thanks" to Trish Throop, Randy Henson, and Jim Munoz who brought our joint proposal to both groups and tried to negotiate a compromise. Good process was followed and we can be proud to have leaders who are willing to step forward in time of community need. Now we have a decision and it is time for us to get to work. The FDC needs to break down into action groups with captains and we need to fill those groups with our time and energy. Please come on Sunday evening at 6:00 pm to SCCC building B-107 and let's make Pride98 happen. Janice Van Cleve http://www.wolfenet.com/~aubrey/aubrey.htm
