The meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, August 20 in Room 4106 of Seattle Central Community College, 1701 Broadway (Broadway and Pine St). "All commission meetings are open to the public, but this will be an especially good opportunity for community members to see the commission inaction as we address issues of importance to sexual minorities in Seattle," says Ken Shulman, Commission co-chair. The agenda will address current projects of the Commission, including the Commission's five budget recommendations to the Mayor's office addressing city-wide hepatitis immunization for men who have sex with men, Fire Department diversity, lesbian healthcare, Seattle City Library acquisitions, health care provider sensitivity training, and the upcoming same-sex domestic violence symposium co-sponsored by the Commission. The Commission will also discuss revision of City fair employment and housing laws for the right to sue based on sexual orientation-based discrimination. For up to date reports on these and other projects and to review the agenda when it is made available, community members may visit the Commission's web site at http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/scsm. The Commission is enabled by Seattle ordinance to recommend legislation, policy, and programs to the mayor, city council and City department heads on issues it deems to be of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered communities of Seattle. Seattle's domestic partnership registration law, mandatory sexual-minority awareness training for all police officers, funding for the lesbian health clinic and anti-harassment efforts in the Seattle Public Schools are among the commission's many accomplishments. The Commission was formerly known as the "Seattle Commission for Lesbians and Gays." The Commission may be e-mailed at scsm@ci.seattle.wa.us, or telephoned at 206-684-4500.
