This year the Pride Foundation has been chosen to receive the Washington Philanthropy Award for "Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation." Past recipients of this honor include the Skinner Foundation and Weyerhaeuser Foundation. Peggy Dole, Pride Foundation Board President, accepted the honor from King County Executive Ron Sims. In her remarks she spoke of how awards often reflect their givers as well as their recipients. She added that in "by recognizing the Pride Foundation, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives is making a statement about how it defines its own community. On behalf of our volunteers, staff and donors thank you for building community with the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) community through this award". Others receiving Washington Philanthropy Awards this Year include the Behnke Family as "Outstanding Philanthropic Family," PONCHO as "Outstanding Philanthropic Organization," and The Ackerly Group as "Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation." Pride is delighted to receive this honor, which caps off our 10th Anniversary of Giving which we began with the awarding of our one millionth dollar in grants and scholarships this February.
