This is the ninth year that Seattle Men in Leather has sponsored the annual contest which was held at The Cuff (SML's Home Bar). This year's contest was organized and produced by the outgoing titleholders, Marc Mead (Daddy VIII), Steve Campbell (Daddy's Boy VIII) and Van (Granddad IV). There were a total of five contestants. Rick Yarbrough and Steve Mitchell competed for the title of Seattle Daddy's Boy; Jeff Henness and Patrick Acliff competed for the title of Seattle Leather Daddy and Arnie Norem went for the title of Seattle Leather Granddad. The contest was emceed by Dita, Crown Princess for the Imperial Court of Seattle. The Judges were Eric Bonesteel (Seattle Leather Daddy VII), Mike Freer (Intl. Grizzly 1997), Kurt Shoemaker (Sir Guy 1997), Carla (Emperor XXIII of Seattle) and Tim Lake (Mr. Gay Washington 1997) with Jose Martin Garcia (Seattle Mr. Leather 1997) as the alternate judge. Entertainment was provided by the outgoing titleholders with a hot rubber scene from "Rent." Additional entertainment was provided by Empress XXVII Silky Smooth Ice and MS Gay Washington Tempest. Other highlights of the evening included a raffle and the auctioning off of pies that were smeared on the outgoing titleholders. The judging panel held contestant interviews on Wednesday, November 26th. But the main event was the public competition in three categories. Some of images from the Northwest Image category were a Flying Monkey from the Emerald City (Rick); a logger (Arnie), a computer geek (Patrick) and a Washington State Ferry/Fairy (Jeff). The next category was the Dress Image & Surprise Question which had some fun questions and answers that ranged from Martha Stewart to using a Banana as a dildo. The final category was Category Image in which the contestants present their concept of a Leather Daddy, Daddys Boy or Leather Granddad. The audience was allowed to cast their ballots for contestant of their choice which made up 25% of the vote total. This year's contest raised about $1000 for Lambert House (Seattle's Gay & Lesbian Youth Center), which is Seattle Men in Leather designated charity for 1998. At the end of a great evening, Rick Yarbrough was named Seattle Daddy's Boy 1998, Jeff Henness was named Seattle Leather Daddy 1998 and Arnie Norem was named Seattle Leather Granddad 1998. The new titleholders are already busy preparing for their first fundraiser which will be a benefit for Lambert House. They will hosting SML's annual Pictures with Santa, which will be held at The Cuff, December 19th & 20th. They have lined up two HOT Santastuds.
