>From the _Seattle Gay News_ (5/27/94), p.12: (reprinted w/o permission; all mistakes mine) NEW STATEWIDE POLL SHOWS INITIATIVES 608/610 FAILING by Tom Flint A new statewide poll published in the Spokane _Spokesman-Review_ May 26 shows that a majority of voters in Washington would vote against anti-Gay initiatives 608/610 from reading the official ballot titles. The poll was conducted by Political Media Research Inc., which found that all the Western states, except Idaho and Arizona, would reject anti-gay initiatives. An earlier poll by Elway Research of Seattle had indicated taht 47 percent of voters supported Initiative 608 and 36 (percent) opposed it. Eighteen percent were undecided. But the questions in the Elway poll were phrased in terminology some said favored anti-Gay forces. The new poll used the exact wording that will appear on the November ballot if the initiatives qualify. The _Spokesman-Review_ reported that 51 percent of voters were opposed to anti-Gay Initiative 608, while 29 percent favored the initiative and 20 percent were undecided. Initiative 608 is backed by the Tacoma-based Washington Public Affairs Council. Initiative 610 was opposed by 50 percent of voters. Thirty-three percent of voters favored the initiative and 17 percent were undecided. Initiative 610 is sponsored by the Citizens Alliance of Washington. The poll however is just a "snapshot" and is not indicative of how the electorate will vote in November. Most voters haven't given much thought to the initiatives this early in the campaign and their opinions will be greatly influenced by the information they receive between now and November. {...} * Richard Isaac __*_*___ \* * / Seattle *\ * ***\**/** rmisaac \/ @eskimo.com
