Charlottesville, VA, home of Thomas Jefferson and of this University which he founded, passed an ordinance on Monday, July 18, 1994 banning sexual orientation discrimination in its own hiring practices and those of contractors providing goods or services worth over $10,000 dollars US to the city. This makes Charlottesville only the third of Virginia's 136 counties and cities to have any sort of "gay rights" ordinance: the cities of Arlington and Alexandria, both suburbs of Washington, D.C., have had more comprehensive gay-rights legislation on their books for several years. Btw, the net's own Mark Hertzog played a pivotal role in getting the Charlottesville ordinance passed. Regards...............................................Rick Fleming, UVA
