Date: 01 Apr 00 12:00:43 -1000 From: "Marriage Project - Hawaii" Subject: Please help Vermont! Dear Friend, Please help the Vermont Freedom To Marry folks as outlined in Mary Bonauto's letter below. With Best Regards, Tom Ramsey Treasurer, Marriage Project Hawaii (for news of Hawaii, go to http://members.tripod.com/~MPHAWAII/) IMPORTANT REQUEST FROM VERMONT To: Freedom to Marry Allies From: Mary Bonauto, GLAD Date: 03/29/00 Re: Please DO write to Vermont Leadership You may have heard that the opponents of freedom and equality are calling and writing Vermont Senators in great numbers and a great volume. Great volume! Some media have begun covering the issue as though only a group of Vermonters supports civil unions. In a separate development, a well-intentioned individual not connected with the Vermont efforts has independently asked people to do the same thing as the opposition. That is not helpful. Phone calls from out-of-state residents to Vermont legislators at their homes are not well-received. What would be helpful is the following: Polite letters (not emails, which are automatically deleted without being read) to the following individuals who are in leadership positions. Please tell them you support the freedom to marry and/or H847 (An Act Relating to Civil Unions). The best people for non-Vermonters to communicate with are: Governor Howard Dean 109 State St. Montpelier, VT 05609 Lt. Gov. Douglas Racine Office of the Lieutenant Governor State House 115 State St. Montpelier, VT 05633 The Honorable Michael J. Obuchowski Speaker of the House of Representatives State House 115 State St. Montpelier, VT 05633-5301 Senator Peter Shumlin President Pro Tem, Vermont Senate Statehouse 115 State St. Montpelier, VT 05633-5301 Please do not write the Senators, and please do not call or email anyone which is considered annoying and is definitely ineffective. Thank you for making this a priority. Mary L. Bonauto, Esq.
