Lewis" Subject: TEXAS Same-Sex Marriage Bill LEGISLATURE COMMITTEE PASSES BAN ON RECOGNIZING OUT-OF-STATE AME-SEX MARRIAGES A committee of the Texas House on Wednesday approved a bill barring recognition of marriages between out-of-state homosexual couples, according to a story in the April 24 Houston Chronicle. It will next be voted on by the entire House. The bill, authored by Pampa Republican State Rep. Warren Chisum, was passed by a unanymous 6 - 0 vote of the House Committee on Business and Industry. "I just believe it's the role of this House that we not only not allow homosexuals to be married in the state, but we not allow them to circumvent our laws by going to another state, then coming back here and claiming to be married under another state statute," Chisum is quoted as saying. =END=
