On a recent Sunday evening I went out with a young woman who wanted to to go to a "gay" bar. I went along with this request and we found such an establishment on Fourth Street. I will now reveal the shocking findings of this excursion into the dark underworld of unmitigated evil. But first, a warning to the reader: what you are about to read may strike terror in your heart. For starters, the place was remarkably clean and had relatively little cigarette smoke, sure signs that this was not a normal bar. The predominantly male clientele were well-groomed and nicely dressed for the most part, further raising my wariness and suspicion. We sat at the bar and were immediately given friendly and attentive service by a man who, I am disgusted to have to say, was pleasantly talkative, polite, unpretentious and (gasp) somewhat effeminate. He was subsequently relieved of his duties by another bartender who had the unmitigated gall to continue being friendly with us while providing us with whatever we wanted while smiling. He even engaged us in amiable conversation and jocular banter. Throughout the duration of our visit to this den of iniquity, men were shamelessly talking to each other around the bar and, worst of all, most of them appeared to be having fun. When we finally left this place of wickedness, the bartender smiled and told us to drive safely, carrying on with his relentless hospitality. So, now you can see why the self-appointed enforcers of the Way Things Ought to Be are so upset about homosexuality. People who are different from them are enjoying themselves, and this cannot be allowed to continue in our God-fearing nation. If any among you doubt the veracity of my witness, then go and see for yourselves. But if you go, be sure to arm yourself with rigid beliefs and preconceived notions or you may fall prey to a change of heart. George W. Hunt Austin, 78722
