This year, the committee plans to sponsor a very important event focusing on curriculum issues. Our subject is "Conversations on Curriculum: Sexualities in the University Classroom." Our vision for this event includes three panel discussions and an informal networking reception. Faculty and students from the University of Oregon, Lane Community College, Oregon State University, Portland State University and other institutions of higher education around the state will be participating in all three programs. Friday, Feb. 18 3-5 pm Gerlinger Lounge U of O "Mainstreaming the Margins: Including Sexualities across the Curriculum" Panelists will talk about ways issues of sexuality are addressed in various disciplines including biology, English, history, law, sociology and theater arts, among others. How are these issues relevant to the core curriculum and traditional courses throughout the university? Friday, Feb. 18 5:30-7 pm Gerlinger Lounge U of O "A Social Gathering: Networking and Resource Sharing" Join us for refreshments and informal resource sharing. Saturday, Feb. 19 10 am-noon EMU Walnut Room U of O "Queer Topics: Examples of Research and Courses Focusing on Diverse Sexualities" Faculty and students will discuss research and "special focus" course topics underway in university settings. Our discussion will look at types of support and obstacles encountered. Saturday, Feb. 19 1-3 pm EMU Walnut Room "For people of All Sexual Orientations: The Risks and Rewards of Talking About Sexualities in the Classroom" Our discussion will focus on experiences: what happens in the classroom when topics of sexualities are foregrounded, for all persons involved. Friday, Feb. 18, 7:00pm, 180 PLC Winners of the Second Annual Queer Film Festival Competition. Saturday, Feb. 19, 3:00pm, 180 PLC Meet with media activist and filmmaker Catherine Saalfield for open questions and answers. FREE ADMISSION Saturday, Feb. 19, 7:00pm, 180 PLC, U of O Feature film presentation, Forbidden Love, a portrait of lesbian sexuality and survival during the sexual dark ages of the 1950s and 60s. Rounding out the evening will be the comedy short, Came Out, It Rained, Went Back In Again. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2:00pm, 180 PLC "The Construction of the Lesbian Gaze," an historical retrospective of lesbians in cinema, presented by Meryem Ersoz.
