Please excuse the weird cross-posting--I'm operating with free software, here. I need information on the "1972 Gay Rights Platform". I'm writing from Canby, Oregon, where we are fighting a local (city) version of the OCA's Measure 9. It's also sponsored by the OCA. We are the only city (of 4) in Clackamas County where their petition drive succeeded, so it will go to the voters in June and we expect a nasty fight between now and then. Fortunately, the local paper is sympathetic. Last night (while we were appearing before the Elementary School Board) the editor called us to let us know that Tuesday's edition will contain the following letter from Patricia Smith, the OCA's treasurer. He would like to print a response in the same issue. Key to the letter is the "1972 Gay Rights Platform". Apparently some group of people gathered in 1972 and wrote up a list of Santa-bring-me's. I want to know who did it, where they met, how *they* phrased their list, where this group is now, how the gay community of today regards this group, this historic event, and this platform. I need information soon--but if you have any to send me, and you don't get this note for a week or two, I can still use it. Send information to the Canby Neighbors for a Safe Community, cnsc@lily.arts.com P.O. Box 793 Canby, OR 97013 or Cam Sivesind or Tom Lawrence _The_Canby_Herald_ 241 N. Grant Canby, OR 97013 Many thanks. The Letter: UNDERSTAND GAY AGENDA, CANBY To the editor: According to _The_Canby_Herald_, Mark O'Shea said he knows of no agenda by the homosexual community. But every Canby City Council member had in their possession a written copy of the 1972 Gay Rights Platform prior to the April 7 council meeting. The 1972 Gay Rights Platform includes these items: 1. Amendment to all Civil Rights Acts and other legislation to prohibit discrimination against homosexuals in employment, housing, public services. 2. Presidential executive order prohibiting military from excluding homosexual persons. 3. Federal encouragement for sex education courses, taught by homosexuals, presenting homosexuality as a "valid, healthy preference." 4. Federal funding for homosexual organizations helping homosexuals with "problems...engendered by an oppressive sexist society." (e.g. by family income taxed to subsidize homosexual subculture). 5. Repeal of state laws prohibiting private sexual acts. (e.g. erase sodomy laws making sodomy equal with healthy sexual intercourse). 6. Repeal state laws prohibiting solicitation for "private voluntary sexual liaisons" including prostitution. 7. Enact legislation enabling homosexual persons to have child custody, adopt and be foster parents. 8. Repeal laws prohibiting transvestism and cross dressing. 9. Repeal all laws governing age of sexual consent (e.g. pedophilia accepted and advocated). 10. Repeal laws restricting number or sex of persons included in a "marriage unit." Homosexuals want these agenda items and are working for them. We see the opposite of Canby's initiative in SB 34, 35 currently under consideration in Salem. It appears that four Canby council members also support the above agenda because they had a copy prior to their April 7 vote. Or maybe they still do not understand its reality. Item #7 combined with #9 should be enough to wake us all up. Is this what opponents to the Canby initiative mean by "Canby Neighbors for a Safe Community?" P.Smith Canby ************************************ That's all she wrote, folks. (at least, this week...the woman's a prose-spewing monster) For information: The April 7 vote she's talking about is the City Council's stand, 4-2, to ask the voters of Canby to vote against her initiative. Please, does anyone know anything? Why does Pat Smith get a copy of the Gay Agenda and I don't? Who's in charge of distributing these agendae? Huh? --Suzii. palepink@lily.arts.com Canby Neighbors for a Safe Community cnsc@lily.arts.com
