Job Description Title: Gay Youth Outreach Responsible to: Program Coordinator Positions Supervised: None Degree of Supervision: N/A General Description: This is a full-time position to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention information to youth (ages 16 - 29) who may engage in high risk behaviors. The target audience of this position is primarily the Gay, Bisexual, and men who have sex with men communities; but may also include IVDU populations and male street trade workers. Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Establish relationships and work closely with local gay agencies and commercial establishments serving youth to provide outreach services. 2) Provide outreach services and programming in AVOC's service region. 3) Create and implement programming to provide prevention services to the Gay, Bisexual, and men who have sex with men communities. Develop prevention education materials that are target community specific and culturally competent. 4) Provide both one-on-one, group and peer education/discussions in various field settings. 5) Provide referral information concerning testing and the network of available AIDS related services. Establish alternate site testing opportunities. 6) Recruit participants and train volunteers for the advisory group of 20 members and 30 outreach volunteers. 7) Represent AVOC in various regional organizations (Greater Cincinnati AIDS Consortium, GLGLC, CYG, etc.) 8) Attend ODH sponsored RRS training and education seminars as required. 9) Participate as necessary in AVOC training and education programs. 10) Maintain statistics and reports as assigned by the Program Coordinator. 11) Maintain an intricate knowledge of HIV/AIDS education, prevention, transmission, and safer sex standards. 12) Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator. Position Requirements: A thorough understanding and acceptance in the Gay/Bisexual/MSM communities targeting youth and HIV/AIDS issues is vital to this position. No specific degree is required for this position, however a preference will be considered for education degrees and/or experience.
