Smith assumed control of the Columbus (Ohio) AIDS Task Force. On Wednesday the 19th, her hard work was recognized in Chicago when she received a $25,000 award from the Anderson Foundation. The award, a recognition of people who enhance the lives of gay and lesbians, was granted for her work in expanding the services the Task Force offered. The operating budget when Mrs. Smith started was $40K, and has now been expanded to $1.2M per year; some of it coming from city, state and private grants. The Task Force has developed joint programs with Children's Hospital, Ohio State University Hospitals, Hospice, and Meals on Wheels. Smith, speaking of her plans to use the award to help other organizations says, "I like playing Santa Claus." Also receiving Stonewall Awards were: Harry Hay of Los Angeles, David La Fontiane of Michigan, and Phyllis Satrazemis of North Carolina. Winners were nominated by local gay and lesbian leaders and selected by an Anderson Foundation committee. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ___ "Engage." ___....-----'---`-----....___ ======================================= "Oh, Jean-Luc!
