Replies to the list or list editor will be returned ] Karen Burstein, the first openly lesbian candidate to run on a major party ticket in New York State, has defeated incumbent Attorney General G. Oliver Koppell to win a four-way Democratic primary. Burstein is a former state senator who quit as Brooklyn Family Court Judge earlier this year to run for attorney general. Burstein, 52, is also former charirwoman of the Consumer Protection Board. She now faces Republican Dennis Vacco, a former U. S. attorney from Buffalo, in the November general election. Only one other woman, former Lt. Gov. Mary Anne Krupsak, has held state office.
