Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 03:03:11 +0000 From: Diana Williams Subject: filmmaker needs $$ I would like to post a notice on the film link in the media site. Nisha Ganatra is currently in preproduction on her feature film entitled "Plan B". She is scheduled to begin shooting on September 7th in and around New York City. "Plan B" humorously touches on many layers (traditional values and modern ideas; homosexuality and ethnic identity; fitting in or finding your own niche) by featuring a woman (Reena) who as an individual, represents them all. The Indian culture does not have a corresponding word for "gay", let alone "lesbian" in its language. Therefore, how can a woman take her place in the world when even her own culture finds it difficult to acknowledge her existence? This story is very close to Nisha since she is also Indian and a Lesbian. This is why we are sending out a plea to the community to support this emerging artist's vision with their tax deductible donations. No amount is too small. Nisha had great success within the community with her short film "Junky Punky Girlz" which showed at several national and international film festivals this year after it's premiere in Mix '95 (New York Lesbian and Gay Film Festival). It was recently broadcast on PBS during the "In the Life" series last month after it was awarded the Outstanding Short Film of the Year. (A complete festival and award listing is available). Besides Nisha's talent behind the camera, the script has also attracted Sarah Vogel and Kelley Forsyth (of Seneca Falls who produced: "Girlstown" and "Trees Lounge") as Executive Producers and Jane Ambramowitz (Assistant Editor: "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues" and "Flirting with Disaster") as the Editor. If you are interested in being a part of an exciting project that you can be proud of, please contact me at . Thank you.
