Marsha Scott, White House Liaison to the Lesbian and Gay Community, will act as representative to answer questions and collect comments to the President from New York City's lesbian and gay community. The Town Hall meeting will take place at the Center (208 West 13 Street off Seventh Avenue) on Friday evening, April 26, 1996 at 7 pm. The Town Hall meeting is free and open to the public, and will be co-sponsored by the Center's Office of Public Policy and the Empire State Pride Agenda. Clinton gained support from the lesbian and gay community in 1992 for suggesting the ban against gay personnel in the military be lifted. Running for re-election in November 1996, Clinton's candidacy has grown controversial for many gay voters in light of Clinton's decisions not to challenge Colorado's anti-gay Amendment 2 in the Supreme Court, to support "Don't ask, don't tell...," to sign legislation that will discharge HIV positive members from the military, and to appoint a non-gay, Marsha Scott, as White House Liaison to the Lesbian & Gay Community.
