-------- I introduced the following as a Student Senator and it was passed 5-0 in the External Affairs committee, and 15-4-2 in the full Student Senate. I mailed it to State Senators Bruno and Marino yesterday. WHEREAS, the Student Senate is against discrimination in all its forms; and WHEREAS, the neighboring states of Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts all extend equal rights to all their residents regardless of sexual orientation while New York currently does not; and WHEREAS, the State Assembly of New York passed a bill ({\it A.1336}) 90-50 on February 1, 1993 that would add New York to the list; and WHEREAS, the State Senate of New York is considering a companion bill ({\it S.1890}) which would extend civil protections on the basis of sexual orientation in the areas of education, employment, housing, public accomodations and credit; and WHEREAS, the Student Senate believes that open discussion of the issue should be encouraged; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Student Senate urges Senator Joseph Bruno and Senate Majority Leader Ralph Marino to bring ``the 1993 Gay Rights Bill ({\it S.1890})'' to a vote on the New York State Senate floor; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Student Senate endorses ``the 1993 Gay Rights Bill'' and calls for speedy passage of the bill into law to extend civil rights protection to all New York State residents regardless of sexual orientation. --- RON BUCKMIRE, 11 Colvin Circle, Troy, NY 12180-3735. ``BOYCOTT COLORADO!'' vox:(518)-276-8910 fax:(518)-276-6920 buckmr@rpi.edu buckmr@rpitsmts.bitnet "Birth Control is disgusting--people using each other for pleasure."
