NH House Bill 1432, which will add 'Sexual Orientation' to the State's Civil Rights Bill passed the full house on Tuesday, by a vote of 226-131. It now goes to the Senate for consideration. The story about the bill was front page news in the -Union Leader- of Manchester, the state's very conservative and largest daily paper. Surprising to me, there was no front page editorial attacking the bill. There was an editorial on the Editorial Page which attacked a man who threatened to expose closeted gays who did not vote for the bill (which seems timely considering the discussion on the list about 'outing') Considering that we were hoping to get 200 votes to send a strong message to the governor, the 226 is great. Gov. Merrill still claims that gays are protected under the state's current legislation and that opposes passage of the bill. I am very happy this morning. My best to everyone working in Washington to pass their civil rights bill. Hopefully, soon we will see similar legislation in ALL the states in between. Brendan Equal Rights, not Special Rights
