Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 18:20:44 -0800 From: jessea@uclink2.berkeley.edu (Jessea NR Greenman) Subject: IMMEDIATE action needed re Missouri bill to gag education [The P.E.R.S.O.N. Project encourages everyone, not just Missourians, to contact Missouri's state senators. The complete contact list, taken directly from Missouri's State Home Page, appears at the end of the message...] FEEDBACK: * From sandiego@accessone.com (Carmen McDowell & Mark Thompson) - My sister lives in Columbia, MO and she phoned me this morning (weds. 1/24) to tell me that Senator John Russell, a Republican from Lebanon, MO, has introduced a bill making the use of any 'pro-homosexual' materials in Missouri public schools illegal. Apparently the Missouri state senate is due to vote on this tomorrow (thursday 1/25/96. For your information, I include a copy of the bill. If you are able to encourage Missourians to fight this bill, I would be very grateful. It seems to me that this is an attempt to further undermine free speech and to criminalize the idea that homosexuality is an acceptable 'lifestyle'. (I personally see the lifestyle tag as insulting, but there it is.) The Missouri Senate information number is (573) 751-4806. The fax number for the Missouri Senate is (314) 751-2745. [i.e. this is the fax number for ALL senators!!!] Only two have email addresses listed [see below] and the office phones for each senator are also listed below. ************** Senate Bill No. 600 88th General Assembly An Act Relating to the public schools, with penalty provisions.
