His comments came shortly after a meeting with several leaders of national religious-right organizations. One month later a coalition of 14 national fundamentalist groups, including the Tupelo, Mississippi-based American Family Association, placed a series of ads in national newspapers. The ads claimed that homosexuality could be cured. Shortly thereafter, a series of anti-GLBT measures surfaced in Congress, several of which passed the House. -30- _____________________________________________________________________ Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force works to eliminate prejudice, violence and injustice against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people at the local, state and national level.
