Two months following the closing of "Equal Time" newspaper in Minneapolis/St Paul, a Twin Cities weekly newspaper has plans to publish a G/L section in their publication. "Twin Cities Reader" has hired many former "Equal Time" staffers, and will debut "Q Monthly" in the next coming weeks. Twin Cities Reader has been published for almost 20 years, and has over 100 pages per issues, with a circulaton of 125,000. "Equal Time" had 28-32 pages, and a circulation of 20,000 at the time it ceased publication due to mounting financial losses associated with their move to weekly from bi-weekly publishing. "Q Monthly" will be a three month experiment, with at least 12 pages. Two of the staffers hired were with the newspaper when it ceased. One was its Editor, and one its senior staff wrter. Another is a former editor. The idea to create a G/L section and work with the former "Equal Time" writers/Editors was brought to the publishers of "The Reader" by an openly gay staff writer. "The Reader" says that they are the only major metropolitan weekly paper (known in the industry as alternative news weeklies) that they know of to have a G/L section. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
