The exhibit was scheduled to open Monday May 13 at Mark's Meadow Elementary School in Amherst, MA and be on display through Friday, May 17. The exhibit has been endorsed by many national organizations including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Gay and Lesbian Parents Coalition International, and Parents, Friends, and Families of Lesbians and Gays; however, opponents have asked for an emergency hearing on a petition to block it. There are two versions of the exhibit, one designed for children in grades K-6 and one for older students and adults. The parents' lawyer, Gregory Hession, said the show is inappropriate for the age group and has "glowing descriptions of tangled sexual relationships, artificial insemination... that could be quite frightening and embarrassing to a child." Mark's Meadow school Principal Lenore Carlisle said the exhibit is about diversity, not human sexuality. Peggy Gillespie of Belchertown, who helped in the exhibit, said it would "teach people what real family values are all about, which is love and caring."
