SOUTHERNERS ON NEW GROUND
Building Allies, Connecting Race, Class Gender and Sexual Orienation

Founded in the vision, of Black and white southern lesbians, SONG's purpose
is to connect race, class, gender and sexual orientation to build progressive
movement across the south for social change.  Particularly, SONG
integrates work against racism, sexism and economic injustice into
lesbigaytrans organizing and work against homophobia into freedom struggles
in the south.  

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Co-Director

SONG seeks applications for a Co-Director. Position is full time and 
involves travel.

PROGRAM WORK: 
Build skills of local leaders and organizations to do multi-issue organizing 
through
 - facilitating workshops on race, gender, sexual orientation 
and economics
 - facilitating skills building retreats with lesbigaytrans 
organizers and allies
 - providing one to one support to organizers in their local 
work 
 - developing and implementing special events and/or campaigns 
to connect issues
 - providing technical assistance 
Responsible for facilitation of people of color retreat
 
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT/ADMINISTRATION
Fundraising, including writing proposals, communications with funders, major 
donor solicitation, and events
Membership development
Administering contracts and grants
Communications with Board Members
Strategic thinking about SONG's work

THIS POSITION WILL COORDINATE A SPECIAL CAMPAIGN
Coordinate campaign to honor Black gay civil rights leader Bayard Rustin
 as a means of making connections between communities
 - responsible for organizing and facilitating town meetings 
about the campaign
 - work closely with Campaign Steering Committee
 - support local organizations and coalitions in their local 
campaign initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:
Organizing experience, including anti-racist organizing and intentional work 
on connecting issues of race, class, gender and sexual orientation
Experience in fundraising, including writing proposals
Experience in nonprofit administration
Understanding of southern culture and organizing within that culture
Experience in conducting workshops and trainings

SALARY: $33,000, non-negotiable
