Subject: News from Kentucky

With today being the deadline for filing to run for office in Kentucky for
the May primaries and November election, there is a historical first: not
one but TWO openly gay candidates for the Lexington-Fayette County Urban
County Council.

In a historic first, Matt Solberg, former President of UK Lambda, is
running against two opponents for the 11th District seat. He is the first
openly gay candidate (to my knowledge) in Lexington's history.

Today also Jeff Jones (moi) filed to run for one of three at-large seats.
There are 12 candidates for these seats altogether (including myself).

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council consists of a mayor, 12 district
councilmembers, and 3 at-large members. The highest vote-getting at-large
seat is the vice-mayor. There will be a run-off election on May 26 for the
Council to narrow the field in the primaries. The general election will be
in November. Council elections are non-partisan.

Matt is intending to run a high profile election and will need considerable
funding. I plan on running a very laid-back, low budget campaign...except
for the troupe of sky-diving leather-clad drag queens...;) ha

So, if you aren't registered...register. I hope folks will come out and
support Matt, myself, and several other great candidates like Ernesto
Scorsone, Jennifer Mossotti, etc. for seats here in Lexington, Frankfort,
and Washington!
