Subject: ACTION-ALERT: Anti-Gay Legislation Before KY House of Repr.

Three anti-gay bills come before the KY House of Representatives tomorrow
(Tuesday!).
Gays and lesbians nationwide are urged to call the Kentucky state toll-free
number, 1-800-372-7181, the main number for the legislature, 1-502-564-8100,
or fa:  1-502-564-6543 and leave messages urging Greg Stumbo (Speaker of the
House), Jodie Richardson or Larry Clark, (all Democrats), who are leaders in
the Kentucky General Assembly's House of Representatives, to oppose the
following proposed legislations.  KY residents should leave similar messages
for their own representatives. 

1) The recriminalization of "sodomy":
Floor Amendment 1 to House Bill 219, proposed by Rep. Danny Ford, would
create "a new section of the Kentucky Constitution granting the General
Assembly the authority to define and punish sodomy, including between
consenting persons".  If the bill is approved, the issue would put before the
voters in November for final approval.

2) and 3) are designed to block acceptance of same-sex marriage:

2) House Floor Amendment 1 to Senate Bill 68, proposed by Rep. Kathy
Hogancamp, states, "If any resident of this state marries in another state,
the marriage shall be valid if valid in the state where solemnized, provided
however, that in no case shall a marriage between persons of the same gender
be recognized as valid."  

3) House Bill 500, proposed by Rep. Sheldon Baugh, states, "A marriage
between members of the same sex which occurs in another jurisdiction shall be
void in Kentucky," and further provides that any marriage between members of
the same sex performed in or out of Kentucky "shall be void."
