Box 1504, Manhattan, KS 66502 TO: Flint Hills Mainstream Coalition FROM: Organizing Committee DATE: March 18,1995 RE: Action Needed by Coalition in School Board and City Commission Elections. At the March 12th meeting, the Coalition decided not to sponsor another forum for the current school board or city commission race. Instead, we would ask all members of the Coalition to try to attend the forums already scheduled for these races and ask questions--keeping the Coalition's concerns in front of the public. To aid you in this process, a committee came up with questions for both school board candidates an-d city commission candidates. These questions appear below with a listing of the upcoming candidate forums. PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND AT LEAST ONE FORUM FOR EACH RACE. QUESTIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES: 1. Now that House Bill 2301 on human sexuality and AIDS instruction has passed and moved to the Senate, would you continue to support the current sex education program at USD 383? 2. If the Local Option Budget (LOB) does not pass, would you choose across the board reductions or elimination of specific programs? Please be specific about the programs you would eliminate. QUESTIONS FOR CITY COMMISSION CANDIDATES: 1. If the City, County, and School Board continue to develop their partnerships, what do you think should be included in health services school-based clinics? 2. Should the City continue to fund current youth programs through the Parks and Recreation Department as the current level? You can support your candidates by yard signs, money, helping get people to the polls, and letters of support in the paper. All letters of support are due in to the Mercury by March 28th. Please consider including all four candidates you are supporting in your letter. PLEASE REMEMBER, THE COALITION IS NOT ENDORSING ANY CANDIDATES, SO THESE ARE PERSONAL LETTERS OF SUPPORT.
