Thanks to all of you who responded to the first appeal for volunteers to work with AI in organizing a campaign to repeal the Kansas sodomy laws, AIMLGC is organizing a new campaign to address the Kansas issue in particular. The campaign will be organized by Vince Steele, regional coordinator for the South and campaign organizer. Anyone wanting to work with Vince on this campaign should contact him at: 5009 T Endolwood Road, Charlotte, NC 28515. Tel. 704-535-7101. Sorry, he dosen't have email. Vince will work with the campaign organizers to prepare a complete plan of action for Kansas. EVERYONE needs to get into the act. In order to have a successful campaign not only will we need to address the issue from the legal point of view, but there will have to be a lot of community action. AI does not want the law to just be over turned and call it quits. AI objectives are for a change in the mentality of how homosexuality is seen within society. Gay and Lesbian people will be needed to go to meetings of local AI groups and discuss the discrimination they have experienced. There will also be a need for community educations, community access TV, radio, newslpapers. But more important than any is the interactions of gay people with the broader community on a daily basis. changing peoples attitudes comes through interaction, not separation from the larger community of heterosexuals. I would like to thank all of you who responded to the first article I put out. This is the type of action we needed. As a result the possibility of organizing campaigns in Kansas and Montana are a much clearer possibility than before. A bit of good news comes from Tennessee where a State judge threw out the anti-sodomy laws there as being unconstitutional. Now if we can be so successful in Kansas and, Montana, Missouri and Arkansas. -30-
