The statewide poll was conducted by Political/Media Research, Inc., a Washington DC polling firm, a total of 820 registered Kansas voters were interviewed June 26 to June 28 by telephone. All those interviewed indicated that they were regular voters in state elections. Of those in the general statewide poll who responded to the question "In general, do you think homosexuals should or should not have equal rights," 63% of those interviewed said Gays and Lesbians should have equal rights, 26% said they should not. The other 11% were "not sure". Of the total, 61% of men and 65% of the women polled supported equal rights for Lesbians and Gays, while 28% of the men and 24% of the women said the Gay community should not have equal rights. Among political groups, Democrats supported equal rights for Gays 72% to 15% with 12% "not sure." Voters who identified themselves as "independent" also strongly supported Gay rights 66% to 23%, with 11% "not sure."
