DEAR EQUALITY KANSAS ACTIVIST: We need your help. The Human Rights Campaign Fund (HRCF) has sent a letter / pledge to every member of the United States Senate. The pledge reads, in it's entirety: "The Sexual Orientation of an individual is not a consideration in the hiring, promoting or terminating of an employee in my congressional offices." Every member of the Senate has been asked to sign this pledge. As of Friday, April 15th, Bob Dole HAS agreed to sign this pledge (we are told this came about thanks to the phone calls from activists in the Wichita area.) However, Senator Nancy Landon Kassebaum has DECLINED to sign this pledge, with the argument that it is just a piece of paper without legal impact. This, of course, neglects the symbolic significance of this pledge, especially if signed by a Republican (As Bob Dole has done.) Please call Senator Kassebaum on Monday, telling her that, as a Kansan, and a Queer, that you urge her to sign the pledge in order to set an example. And why not call Senator Dole while you are at it, to THANK him for taking a stance in favor of human rights! Senator Kassebaum: 202.224.4774 Senator Dole: 202.224.6521
