The city council in Bloomington, IN passed the state's second G/L anti-
discrimination ordinance at its meeting last evening. The council session
began at 7 pm and lasted until the wee hours of the morning, but the
ordinance passed by a strong majority. The Bloomington (home of Indiana
University) action follows a similar vote by the Lafayette (home of Purdue
University) city council late last year.
Authors of the new law, which prohibits discrimination based on sexual
orientation, expressed hope that the Lafayette and Bloomington ordinances
could serve as models for a similar state-wide law, and encouraged state
lawmakers to take up this action in next year's General Assembly.
