The historical displays tell the legend of a once underground leather society rising from secrecy into the light of pride, honor and a unique sense of community. Currently the displays are housed at 5007 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60640. Through the generous donation of leather materials from individuals, the Clark Street location is quickly running out of space. To ensure the growth of leather history, LA&M needs a larger location to accommodate all the archives and displays. Even before the official launch of the LA&M's Capital Campaign to raise funds to buy a permanent building for its operation, NLA:I stepped in with a donation. The $500 donation from NLA:I has already generated interest in the LA&M buy-a-building campaign among NLA chapters and members. This activity--a pre-launch donation, discussion of NLA chapter donations, etc.--caused Joseph Bean, Executive Director of the Leather Archives and Museum, to predict that the staggering $500,000 needed to buy and customize a building will be collected very easily. His plan, from the beginning, was to collect 1,000 donations of $500 each by having individuals and organizations give that amount or produce fund raising events to achieve the $500. NLA:I has bolstered Bean's confidence and that of the LA&M Board of Directors. For more information visit LA&M website: http://www.leatherarchives.org Or contact: jwbean@ix.netcom.com (Joseph W. Bean) (773-271-2410). Open Saturdays to the public, and by appointment to researchers (773-275-1570, Fax 773-878-5184). Contact LA&M if you would like to donate Leather/SM/Fetish memorabilia. Cash donations can be sent to: Leather Archives & Museum 5007 N. Clark Street Chicago, IL 60640
